How To Play Board Games With the Baby-Feel Theme
When a woman is pregnant, it’s often a time to be joyful because a new baby is coming into the world. Some baby showers make some people hide for corners or want them to sleep the rest of the afternoon. Why? When nobody knows each other at the shower, there can be moments of stretched silence. This is very awkward. When there are a bunch of people who don’t know each other, except through the mom-to-be, it’s up to you, the hostess, to find a way around this and make them all feel relaxed.
Remember, the mother’s family is there along with neighbors, friends, co-workers and anyone else that wanted to show up to celebrate the occasion. Small talk gets old fast. Each person will pair up with someone they know and stay that way kind of like a clique does in junior high and high school. Little mingling is done even in a roomful of adults. As it is up to you, it’s time to bring out the games. When you play games, everyone gets involved and forget that they don’t know each other. They’ll begin to help each other out to come up with words, solve problems or beat each other to win the door prize… all of it in good fun. That is the makings of a wonderful, life-long got to remember baby shower.
You already know this to be true. Remember the game “Memory”? For a baby shower, the game is called “Mind the Baby Memory”. How it works is you place baby related items on a tray, hiding it with a blanket so no one can see. Guest will have to remember what is on this tray that’s only shown for two minutes and then write down what they saw.
The game isn’t really a group event but it can be. It can be played with a twist. Have a group of people working together to get all the baby items on the tray written down. This helps to bring people who don’t know each other to work together and converse. Whether you do this game individually or with groups, the game is fun either way.
You don’t have to play just unique baby shower games. In fact, you can play regular board games and turn them into a baby shower game. Have you heard of Pictionary? How about Baby Pictionary? Tear apart the cliques in your living room/dining room and place them into other groups with people they do not know. To begin, you’ll need a large drawing pad and a marker. Don’t worry about it if you can’t draw. Chances are 90 percent of the people in the room can’t draw either. That’s the beauty of the game. Everyone works together to figure out the baby-related answers while laughing at the same time.
Card games such as Poker can be turned into baby themed games. If you want to go all out, find cards that have a baby related theme to them.
The important thing about throwing baby showers is to get creative. You don’t have to do everything every other baby shower does. If you make it fun this time, should you be throwing another baby shower in the future, people will want to come to your shower. They know you can show them a good time.
